Discovering the work of Harry Becker was a revelation to me as I had not been aware of him before moving to Suffolk. His effective capture of movement with the utmost economy of line and marks is quite astonishing. His self assured painterly oils capture the every day happenings of a village on the cusp of great change with poignancy rather than sentimentality.
Other than sketching I’ve been unable to work for nearly two years. Behind our new house there are some Ash Trees struggling to survive, to me they are a fitting emblem of humanity and our relation to the environment. It’s taken a long time to finally record their existence beyond the studio window.
