Discovering the work of Harry Becker was a revelation to me as I had not been aware of him before moving to Suffolk. His effective capture of movement with the utmost economy of line and marks is quite astonishing. His self assured painterly oils capture the every day happenings of a village on the cusp of great change with poignancy rather than sentimentality.
My practice derives from observation of my local environment, I like to sketch when I’m out, I strive to retain the immediacy and freshness of this work when making monotypes or painting in the studio. I make original prints, paint and assemble conceptual pieces using materials I have modified incorporating found objects.
