Gay Foenander

Gay rejoins us after a few years absence…

2019 statement: Having had a rural upbringing, I have always been an observer of the countryside. Much of my childhood was spent exploring old farm barns, and places where one could discover old farm implements and tools of days gone by. The work of Harry Becker captures the essence of rural life in Suffolk, and I am inspired by his spontaneous, lively drawings, simplicity of image, and the evocative atmosphere of his freely painted oils with their warm, earthy colours.

I like to draw directly from my subject, using pencil, charcoal and pastels.
