David Gillingwater HBD

David joins IBBAS for the first time …

As a painter and illustrator for many years, I was always drawn towards complexity of form and detail.

Being introduced relatively recently to the work of Becker it has opened my eyes to the beauty in his economy of stroke and suggestion of form in simplicity. Becker was a painter’s painter, working his craft to no one else’s agenda, uncompromising and creating his unique style- something that I admire greatly.
As mainly a portrait and figurative painter, I’m drawn like Becker to subjects deeply rooted in their environment, people with grit under their fingernails.
I like to think that my work, though not bucolic would appeal to, and be approved by the great man.
